Literacy Week

In 2020-2021,  whilst still in lockdown, I was responsible for coordinating Literacy Week. I worked with a team of two other teachers. Students were given a list of poems and created videos with the aim of creating an online resource to inspire and support students in their love of poetry, In the lead-up to the week, I  gave extra workshops on video editing, comic making, and planning for making a video online.  In English class, students were taught how to write a rationale. The rationale was the only part of this activity that was assessed. I also held a workshop for parents on two occasions,  The workshop enlightened parents on the different type of literacy and aimed to empower parents with the knowledge that their own life experiences and understanding could assist greatly in developing their children's literacy in a variety of areas and this lead to better learning.  For the event, I prepared all the publicity and communication as well. This included email mali outs,. posters don't eh Quintal gallery and final report and documentation of the event.

The quality of the students' videos was incredibly high. You can watch them and read the rationales. The overall event was inspiring in large part due to the overall quality of the work. Students, teachers, and parents voted on the winners. I proudly take claim for being behind my students in succeeding at creating meaningful, top-quality videos. I provided input at times to empower students to see validity in their talents, to help them to think about and plan some of their more ambitious ideas, and generally encourage them to take this opportunity to have their voices heard and say something about the world. I a;sp [rpvoded support to the TEC ( Transitional REductaion Centre teachers) to help them see ways that their students could be involved and make videos. You can see two fo the entries here.
