Outside of the Classroom

I have a vast range of speaking, advocacy, and teaching experiences outside of the classroom. In the kampung I live in, I contribute to the community I live in by providing free English language classes and a community library. Prior to lockdown, I had been studying Indonesian martial arts and I was a member of Parkour Jakarta.

In 2018, I presented my experience as a theater practitioner in a Muslim majority country at The World Conference of Islamic Thought and Civilization in Malaysia.  I also presented my play, 'Jengkol, Jangan Jengkel" at the world's first Islamic Theater  Festival. I also was keynote speaker on literacy and the use of drama to improve it at the RIKSA Bahasa conference at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia in 2016.  In 2012, my play "Beritahu Laura"  " Tell Laura" was read at Women Playwrights International Conference in 2012. I was also a guest speaker at the  Writers' Center  along with South Africa’s Fatima Dike and  Iran’s Sanaz Bayan.

Whilst we can't all be heroes, I believe strongly that the little actions we take whether it be in our local community or  putting ourselves out there in unusual experiences, we can all contribute to making the world a better place.
