OCELOTS & CATS (Abhista 7B)

Ocelots and cats may look similar, but ocelots have skin like the jaguar; they have the same genus as they are in the cat family. Both have similarities and differences; ocelots have black spots on their skins, whereas cats don’t have any skin like ocelots, but they can have different colors based on their species. However, they have some similarities in their physical appearances, both have a tail and the same ears, they also have paws and sharp claws on their feet. As they’re carnivores, they eat meats such as fish for cats and other small wild animals for ocelots, cats that humans keep as pets eat cat foods containing vitamins and nutrition for their bodies. Feral cats and some domestic cats also eat mice & rats. They chase one when they see them. In size, it can vary depending on their species, how they eat, and their nutrition. Those are some factors why they can have various sizes. An average cat is about 46 cm from head to body length, with a height of 23-25 cm. In comparison, an average ocelot size is around 73-100 cm, with a 30-45 cm height.

Both animals also have mental and emotional differences. Both of them can show their feelings by emotions and how they act. They communicate with other cats or animals with body language. Usually, they use their body parts such as their tail, feet, and head to show their feelings. The difference is cats are natural predators, and domestic cats retain this instinct to a certain extent. At times, a cat acting crazy may be exhibiting hunting behaviors, fighting maneuvers, or escape techniques. It is known that cats can also act crazy like that when they’re fighting or stressed. It is dangerous to keep an ocelot before it gets tamed. It can also hurt humans because they think that the humans are hostiles or a threat to them. Talking about their mental, an average cat possesses the intelligence of a 2-3-year-old toddler, and some cat owners teach their cats to be more intelligent than the average ones. And a wild ocelot’s IQ can be lower than an average cat’s because they’re not kept as a pet by humans. In daily life, humans usually keep cats as pets, and humans take care of them. Most cats that are pets are domestic cats that are not living in a wild habitat. Cats can be used to cure stress, anxiety, and depression. Unlike cats, ocelots are primarily fantastic, and spending rest time in trees, ocelots hunt prey in the night and rely on their hearing and

eyesight to detect prey when hunting. Ocelots live in grasslands, whereas domestic cats live in urbanized areas and cities. Humans rarely keep ocelots, as most live in the wildlife and not in urbanized areas; ocelots are primarily in South America. They live in tropical forests and usually sleep in the daytime in trees or bushes. In the night, they are active and hunt for prey. So they can feed themself. In conclusion, cats are mostly not aggressive towards humans. They’re easy to get trained and tamed, whereas an ocelot is usually a wild animal. Ocelots live in tropical forests, and they rest in trees in the daytime. Cats are living in urbanized areas such as cities, housing areas, and a village. If a domestic cat doesn’t get kept by humans, they will rest on sidewalks and a place with a roof and others. Cats that humans kept sleep in a site designed to rest, usually in an indoor home. Cats can be active in both times, depends on the condition.
