Lizards and leopard gecko looks like a very similar animal but their different types of animals. Leopard gecko is actually considered as a lizard. Their both lizards and a part of the reptilian family. The difference between leopard gecko and lizard are in the taxonomy, their behavior, and physical features.

Lizard and leopard gecko have a lot of similarities and difference in taxonomy, their behavior, and physical features. But let’s talk about the similarities and difference in taxonomy first. Lizard and leopard gecko has almost the same taxonomy as each other but, their difference are the kingdom, phylum, class, order, and family and the similarities are the genus and species. Their taxonomy is: Kingdom: both animalia. Phylum: both chordata. Class: both reptilia. Order: both squamata. Family: both Gekkonidae. Genus: leopard gecko: eublepharis, Lizard: gecko. Species: leopard gecko: mackularius, Lizard: gecko.

Now lets talk about the difference and similarities in the behavior category. The difference between them is when leopard gecko has finished molting, they will consume their shed skin researchers have two explanations for this behavior; one being a way to retai nutrients lost in the shedding process, and the other being a mechanism they have to adapted to conceal their presence from predator. And when lizard mold they don’t consume their shed skin. They’re both rarely aggressive.

Now let’s talk about their different and their similarities in physical features. Both of these reptiles are four legged and cold-blooded animal. Both have certain species that can change color to camouflage. While most lizard have dry and scaly skin, the geckos skin is thin with small bumps on it. Lizards possess external ears and movable eyelids while geckos have no eyelid but have transparent membrane which they lick to clean night hunting geckos have large pupils. While some species of geckos may expel a foul spelling material and feces on their aggressors in defense, lizard aren’t known to do that. Some species of geckos of specialized toe pads that enable them to climb vertical surfaces while lizards aren’t known to have them. Most geckos have broad toes covered with flaps of skin containing thousand of bristles and lizards have clawed feet. Most geckos can shed their tails and a new one can grow in it place, lizard are also known to have a fragile detachable tail. So that’s all the different and similarities; physical features, behavior, and taxonomy.

So in conclusion leopard gecko and lizard are two different animals that have a similar taxonomy, behavior and, physical features.
