Coyotes And Tamaskan Dogs

Coyotes, as wild dogs, are often mistakenly assumed as domesticated dogs. At first glance, coyotes and Tamaskan dogs are animals that have similar looks, almost identical but are actually different. Both animals are related to wolves and domesticated dogs, they have thick coats and straight bushy tails too. However, they are not as identical as they are.

These two animals have the same kingdom, Animalia. They share phylum Chordata, class Mammalia, order Carnivora, family Canidae, and genus Canis. But they don't have the same species. Coyote species are Coyote c. latrans whereas Tamaskan Dogs are Canis lupus. In general, Coyotes appear sleeker than domesticated dogs, with a flatter forehead and a more pointed snout. Coyotes appear to have longer legs than domesticated dogs, while dogs appear to have deeper chests.

Both animals have some very interesting features. The fur of a coyote is long and coarse and is generally grizzled buff above and whitish below, reddish on the legs, and bushy on the black-tipped tail. Tamaskan Dogs have double coats, the outer of which tends to be medium length, shaggy and coarse, while the undercoat is sleek and dense. Male coyotes are 58 cm to 66 cm with weight 7 to 21 kg. Their life expectancy in the wild is about 10 year and they have tendencies to have distemper and canine hepatitis. Male Tamaskan Dogs are larger than Coyotes. They are 63 cm to 71 cm with weight 30 to 40 kg.Their life expectancy is an average of 14 to 50 years and their health concerns are hip dysplasia and degenerative myelopathy (DM). Both animals have the similar color of eyes. Mostly yellow, through amber and brown, light eyes are very rare.

Tamaskan dogs’ behavior is generally very friendly, affectionate and loyal, making wonderful family pets and companions. They are also known for their intelligence and protective instincts. On the contrary, coyotes as wild dogs tend to be aggressive among people. There are a lot of reports about conflicts with coyotes online and the best way to avoid it are don't run from them and report immediately.

As a result, even coyotes and tamaskan dogs have some very similar features and looks, they are definitely not the same. While both of the animals share kingdom, phylum, class, order, family and genus, they have different species. The Tamaskan dogs are wonderful pets while coyotes are wild animals. In generaL, coyotes and the tamaskan dogs are different animals.
